Brooke Barrett
Founding Partner
Brooke Barrett (she/her) is a strategist, systems builder, and founder with over two decades of experience at the intersection of P20 education, govtech, policy, philanthropy, and data infrastructure. She does the work that lives between the whiteboard and what actually gets built.
As Founding Partner of Edutelligentsia LLC, Brooke serves as a trusted advisor, implementation partner, and Fractional Chief of Staff to state departments of education, school districts, charter networks, education nonprofits, collective impact organizations, philanthropy, and EdTech companies. Her work centers on the strategic and operational challenges that matter most at the systems level: data infrastructure, technology ecosystems, credentialing modernization, cross-sector partnerships, and supporting leaders navigating complexity, transitions, and high-stakes initiatives. With more than 250 consultants in the Edutelligentsia network, she provides or sources the right expertise for every engagement.
That practitioner depth spans the full stack. As Interim Deputy CTO and Chief of Staff for a large urban school district, she co-led the implementation of a district-wide Digital District plan and data infrastructure modernization. That experience, combined with what she consistently heard from state and district partners, led her to found BenchK12, Inc. in 2020: a venture-backed govtech SaaS platform modernizing educator licensure and credentialing.
In 2024, Brooke co-chaired InnovateEDU’s Teaching Apprenticeship Data Infrastructure Working Group and delivered national policy recommendations on educator workforce data to the U.S. Department of Labor. She is a member of the Linux Foundation’s Education Architecture Special Interest Group, focused on verifiable credentials and blockchain-based interoperability in education, and serves in advisory and pro bono capacities with The New Hood and the Taproot Foundation.
Brooke holds a B.A. from Scripps College, an M.A. in Education from Loyola Marymount University, and an M.S. in Management and Policy from the Milano School at The New School. She has lived and worked across the United States and internationally, from Belfast to Sydney to Austin, New Orleans, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Newark, New York, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C.
Outside of work, Brooke is an auntie to a truly uncountable number of nieces and nephews, a committed supporter of women founders and Angel City FC by choice, and the Dodgers and the Chiefs by birth. You can also find her hiding out in small venues listening to live music and sipping good wine or bourbon with friends; hiking with her pups; SCUBA diving anywhere warm; earning splat points at OTF; and adding new stamps to her passport.
